Bathroom Remodeling in Kirkland, WA

Walk-in showers, custom tile, and proper waterproofing for Pacific Northwest homes.

Bathrooms Built for the Pacific Northwest

Bathrooms in the Puget Sound take a beating. Between the year-round humidity, rain-driven moisture against exterior walls, and the constant use of hot water in a small space, things break down faster here than in drier climates. We have gutted bathrooms in Kirkland where the shower surround looked fine on the surface but the backer board behind it was soft and the studs had visible mold. That is what happens when builders cut corners on waterproofing or skip proper exhaust ventilation. Every bathroom remodel we do starts with opening up the walls to check what is actually going on behind the tile. If there is damage, we fix it before anything new goes in.

When It Is Time to Remodel Your Bathroom

You might notice the grout cracking and getting dark no matter how much you scrub it. Or the caulk around the tub keeps pulling away. The exhaust fan barely moves air, and the mirror fogs up every single shower. Maybe the floor tile is cracked, the vanity is particle board that has swollen from moisture, or the layout wastes space with a tub nobody uses. These are not just cosmetic issues. Cracked grout and failed caulk let water behind the walls. A weak exhaust fan traps humidity that feeds mold. A remodel is the chance to fix all of it at once rather than patching the same problems year after year.

Why Bathroom Remodels Fail (and How Ours Do Not)

Most bathroom remodel failures come down to water getting where it should not be. A shower that was not waterproofed properly will start leaking within a year or two, and by the time you notice it the framing behind the tile is already rotting. We have torn out bathroom remodels done by other contractors who skipped the waterproof membrane, used regular drywall instead of cement board in the shower, or vented the exhaust fan into the attic. All three are problems we see regularly in Kirkland homes. Our approach is to do the behind-the-wall work right the first time so the finished product holds up for 15 to 20 years. We also document everything with photos at each stage so you can see what is behind your walls if you ever need service work in the future.

What a Bathroom Remodel Includes

We handle every trade involved in a bathroom remodel. Plumbing, electrical, tile, waterproofing, ventilation, and finish carpentry all stay under one roof.

  • Complete gut remodel from studs out
  • Walk-in shower builds with Schluter or RedGard waterproof membrane systems
  • Tub-to-shower conversions (we remove the tub and build a proper shower pan)
  • Curbless shower design with linear drain for accessibility
  • Tile installation (large format porcelain, subway, mosaic, natural stone)
  • Custom vanity and double vanity installs with undermount sinks
  • Exhaust fan upgrade with proper ducting to exterior (not just into the attic)
  • PEX plumbing rough-in and fixture connections

We work with tile suppliers in the area (including Arizona Tile and local distributors) so you can pick materials in person before anything gets ordered.

How We Approach Bathroom Remodels

Bathroom remodels are more technical than most homeowners expect. Getting waterproofing right is the whole ballgame. We use Schluter Kerdi or RedGard liquid membrane on every wet-area wall, and we slope shower floors to the drain at 1/4 inch per foot before tiling. Our tile setters flood-test every shower pan before tile goes down. We run exhaust fans through dedicated duct runs to the exterior, not into the attic (which causes its own mold problems). For plumbing, we replace old galvanized or copper supply lines with PEX where accessible, and we install proper shut-off valves so future repairs do not require cutting into walls.
